Top 5 Wednesday: Booktube Didn't Make Me Read It

 

 

Hey there bookworms,
I didn't post anything in a while, but now I'm back with another T5W post! This week's topic is "Booktube Didn't Make Me Read It" and it's about books I discovered without the influence of social media like booktube or bookstagram. T5W is a weekly bookblogging meme hosted by the official goodreads group, and thank you to Gabriela (Violet Hawthorne) for the promps!

 

1. Rebel of the Sands trilogy by Alwyn Hamilton

I had already heard about this trilogy but had no interest in reading it. But then I found the first book in a bookstore on vacation and it was so pretty and the synopsis sounded kinda interesting, so I bought it. I ended up absoluteley loving the whole trilogy because it's imaginative, magical fantasy with a beautiful, arabian inspired desert setting! I'd highly recommend these books and I feel like they're definitely not talked about enough! (Plus, the covers are super pretty!)

 

 2. Bring Me Their Hearts by Sara Wolf

I discovered the German version of this ya fantasy book at my local bookstore and bought it mostly because of the cover (the pic shows the German edition). I had no idea this book/trilogy existed. I quite enjoyed reading it and I'd recommend it too, but I most likely won't continue with this series. I feel like I've outgrown ya fantasy during the last years and I lean more towards adult fantasy these days.

 

 

 

3. New World trilogy by Jennifer Wilson

This is a ya dystopian trilogy that I found when I was browsing the recommendations on goodreads. I didn't exactly know what to expect from these books when I started reading them and I was pleasantly surprised! They're the good old ya dystopia set in a post apocalyptic world, they're exciting and can be surprisingly gruesome at times! I really enjoyed this trilogy and I'd recommend it too.

 

4. Wonder Woman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo

I read this mostly out of curiosity, and because it's Leigh Bardugo and I love her Grishaverse books! I knew nothing about Wonder Woman before and I still liked the book a lot. Actually, this was the reason why I watched the Wonder Woman movie on Netflix a year later - which I loved too, and this was what sparked my interest in superhero movies! So, thank you Diana, and thank you Leigh Bardugo for making me fall in love with a whole new genre!

 

 

 

5. The Survival Game by Nicky Singer

Another cover buy! (Fun fact: I bought this in German and what first sparked my interest was the title ("Before / After") and the fact that there's no title on the cover - it's only on the spine!) Also, I'm a sucker for (post) apocalyptic scenarios. This book was not what I'd expected, but I still liked it. Only at times it was a bit slow and the writing takes some getting used to. I'm still glad I bought it because it looks absolutely gorgeous on my shelves!

Of course there are more, but these are five books/series that I picked up entirely without the influence of any bookish social media. Have you read any of these or do you want to?
