Top 5 Wednesday: Movie Adaptations

Hey there bookworms,

today's topic for T5W is Movie Adaptations. We all know many books are being adapted for the big screen - with more or less success. Today I'm gonna talk about five books that were made into movies and whether I liked the adaptation or not. T5W is a weekly book blogging meme currently hosted by Alex (The Scribe Owl) in the official goodreads group!

1. Divergent

While I really enjoyed the first two movies (even though the second one didn't follow the book that closely), the third was horrible. It was way too much CGI and didn't follow the book at all. I think they made a big mistake when they decided to split the final book into two films because there wasn't enough material to fill two full movies. There never was a conclusion (aka a 4th movie) and I'll forever be mad about that.

2. The Maze Runner

I'm not the biggest fan of the books to begin with, so I went into the movies without any specific expectations. I think the movies are good, but don't work as a book adaptation because similar to Divergent, they don't follow the storyline too closely. They work well as movies on their own though!

3. The Mortal Instruments

Here's an unpopular opinion: I actually enjoyed that movie a lot! I liked the casting, the atmosphere and I'm a huge fan of the music aswell. It also worked as a book adaptation and I'm honestly a bit sad they never continued with that movie series.

4. The Darkest Minds

I quite liked the books and I was super excited about the movie, but unfortunately, it turned out just another stereotypical ya book adaptation. Even though it followed the storyline of the book, I didn't like it that much and that's a shame because I think it could have been really good.

5. The Hunger Games

I can't end this post without mentioning this one. It's the perfect example of a book to movie adaptation done right, for once. I love the books and movies equally, they did a great job with staying close to the books and portraying all the important aspects, and the casting was also amazing.

That's it for today! I know those are all pretty well known books and movies, but I honestly don't know too many other where I've watched the film as well as read the book. Do you like book adaptations? Do you have a favorite? Happy reading and until next time,

~ Anni
