Top 5 Wednesday: Unexplored Genres

Hey there bookworms,
I decided I want to participate in the Top 5 Wednesday series hosted by the official goodreads group! As for today, the topic is Unexplored Genres and/or Tropes, and here are my top five!

1. Thrillers/Crime fiction
I never really got into this genre. I don't watch many crime tv shows either. There are definitely some interesting looking books out there though that I'd like to give a try, but I find myself only interested in (psychological) thrillers, not crime fiction. Two books I want to read are An Anonymous Girl and Blackout.

2. New Adult
This "genre" simply doesn't interest me. Many of these books are love stories that are rooted in real life, and I'm not really a fan of contemporary. I just don't like reading about technically possible things that could happen to real people. I've read one or two New Adult fantasy books but I found them to be quite cringey at parts, with their dangerous alpha males and graphic sex scenes. There are some really gorgeous covers among these books though, I especially love all the pastels and the glittery ones!

3. Classics
The only classics I ever read were for school, and even back then I hated them. I didn't even finish most of them, and the one Shakespeare play I was supposed to read for my British Literature uni class I only read the first few pages of. It's shameful, I know, but I believe you shouldn't waste your time with books you don't enjoy, even if they're considered "classics".

4. Comics
I was a big fan of horse magazines as a child and teen. They always had comics in them and this was my favorite part. I never got on board with "typical" comics like Marvel or DC though. But this is definitely something that interests me, so last year I read volume 1 to 9 of the adult graphic novel series Saga, and I'm now slowly starting to read some Marvel comics. So far I've read Jessica Jones and one Captain Marvel collected edition and I enjoyed both of them.

5. Non-Fiction
This includes many different types of books, from history over biographies to self help and psychology. I don't think I've ever read any non-fiction. If a certain subject interests me I google it. I don't see myself reading any non-fiction in the near future; the only type of non-fiction books I would maybe read are those about horse people and/or training so that I could learn new things from them.

What are some genres and/or tropes you're unfamiliar with? Tell me in the comments, and feel free to recommend me your favorite books from the genres I mentioned above!

As alway, happy reading!
~ Anni

    1. Then go for it :) Everyone should read what they want, and if you're interested in only a certain type of non fiction that's fine too.

    1. Horror und Erotik lese ich auch gar nicht. So ein bisschen Mystery mit in der Handlung mag ich total gern!
